Isla Contoy National Park
The Isla Contoy National Park was established to preserve and protect the wildlife, flora and fauna of Isla Contoy while promoting ecotourism in harmony with nature. Four species of turtle find a safe haven for nesting on the beaches of the island, namely the loggerhead turtle, Green turtle, Hawksbill turtle, and the leatherback turtle. The reserve is also a sanctuary to approximately 152 tropical marine birds, like the frigate bird and brown pelican.

Mayan Ruins in Tulum
The Tulum ruins are the third most-visited archaeological site in Mexico, after Teotihuacan and Chichen Itza. The Mayan ruins of Tulum are only an hour south from Playa del Carmen. The Mayan ruins at the Tulum site have the surrounding walls of the main village still left intact. It smaller size makes it easy to explore. There's also a beautiful white sand beach so be sure to take a swim suit.
