The whale shark is the largest fish existing in the ocean today; they can grow to be up to 60 feet (18m) in length. The whale shark prefers waters of warm surface temperature, in areas where there are upwellings of nutrient rich colder water - these conditions favor blooms of plankton on which the sharks feed. These precise conditions are found year and again, every summer in the waters of Holbox Island.

Nada de cerca en el entorno natural del Golfo de México con el pez más grande del Océano: El “tiburón ballena”. Estas enormes criaturas marinas se encuentran en la costa de Isla Holbox México en el estado de Quintana Roo, cerca de Cancún.
Los tiburones ballena son inofensivos y no amenazante para los seres humanos. De hecho, ellos parecen disfrutar de su interacción con los curiosos que vienen a nadar con ellos. Emigran a Isla Holbox cada mes de mayo a septiembre.
El tiburón ballena es el pez más grande existente en el planeta hoy en día se puede llegar a ser de hasta 60 pies (18 m) de longitud. El tiburón ballena prefiere el agua superficial cálida, en las zonas donde hay afloramientos de agua fría rica en nutrientes – estas condiciones favorecen el florecimiento del plancton en el que los tiburones se alimentan.
